As you scan every page you will begin to discover new ways to see the art through open eyes. The who, why, what, when and how of the greatist masters of all time. Their lives are often as colorful as the paintings they created. Enjoy these highlights of Art History. It is known that Van Gogh cut his ear off. Few know that he was so poor at end of his life he lived on coffee with cream and sugar. If you watch films about Van Gogh you may notice his teeth are always damaged. The ear mystery is also unanswered some say that he cut it to impress the prostitute that he gave it to. Others say that he was an epilipetic, this in combination with his absenth drinking may have caused this as an accident.
Picasso is credited as the innovator of Modern art, his early Cubist works would change the face of art forever. His personal life was also wild and colorful. Picasso went throu many Women in his life. He was very wealthy from an early point in his career. This is rare for Artists before this time. At one point he was living in a brothel and also named one of his most famous works after one Les Demoiselles d'Avignon . He used the women for sketching and refrence.
Salvador Dali on the other hand was virtually a virgin, he had a fear of sex from a very young age. His parents would leave books out and open with sexualy transmited deseases. Imagine the mind of a normal child, much less the brilliant genius mind of Salvador Dali with those scarry images. In Salvador Dali's writing he speaks of a time when he was young and in school and there was a music student sitting there. Dali started a fight and broke the instrument. Being so young the schoolmaster questioned the youth, Dali's response was that he wanted to show the seperority of art over music. He was brilliant and knew his path, his genius. Discover some of the lesser known stories of the artists you have always loved. For example many people don't know that Picasso use to carry a gun around and shoot it in the air at random. Also many people don't know that Dali borrowed $500 from Picasso when he was traveling to the United States for the first time.
